October 1 Launch of New Housing Services

Lexi, Housing Program

Lexi, Housing Program

On October 1, LifeWorks will launch three new programs that form the foundation of our community’s movement to End Youth Homelessness by 2020.

The launch is the culmination of two years of advocacy, community planning, fundraising and leadership both locally (from staff, our dedicated community partners and City leadership) as well as nationally.

The launch of Homelessness Diversion, The PORT (Permanency Through Outreach and Rapid Transitions) and the Rapid Rehousing collaboration with our partners ECHO, SAFE, and Caritas of Austin individually embody service innovation for youth exiting homelessness. Their real power will lie in how they work as part of Austin’s larger community-based service systems. We are working alongside the Department of Family and Protective Services and Austin Independent School District to develop diversionary strategies and pathways out of homelessness that are owned by our entire community, not just LifeWorks. This will continue to ensure that our entire community is rallying around solving the issue of homelessness in Austin.

LifeWorks Home Improvement Challenge Recap

The 13th annual Home Improvement Challenge (HIC) was a great success, largely due to our wonderful sponsoring teams and the management of Sierra Vista Apartments. Each year, HIC brings together corporate and community teams to makeover apartments for youth previously experiencing homelessness. The sponsoring teams worked nonstop throughout the day to completely revamp their client’s apartment with new furniture, bedding, personal photos, TVs, accessories, cookware and more. Each team brought an extremely special touch to their décor. It is truly a magical moment to see the smiles on the faces of our clients as they walk into their newly furnished apartments.

Thank you to all of our 2018 HIC sponsors for their dedication to improving the lives of our youth: American Campus CommunitiesC3 PresentsCapital OneDellDPR ConstructionExperianH-E-BKline PropertiesrepublicPROMOS, Twelve Rivers RealtyUniversity Furnishings, and Whataburger.
